Comments: We refer to these as "cooked to death green beans" as that is how Christina referred to them shortly after she joined the family.
Ingredients:
1 to taste salt and pepper
Directions:
In a large saucepan or stockpot, cover beans with water and add hog jowl and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer, and allow to simmer for 2 to 3 hours.

Remove the lid, and continue to simmer for 30 minutes longer (you may need to turn up the heat once the lid is removed). Add the sugar, salt and pepper and simmer another 15 minutes or until beans look wrinkled.

Serve with chopped onions, if desired.
